The BT55 was the last car designed by Gordon Murray before his move to McLaren F1. The design of the BT55 was made around the idea of keeping a low front profile and as such it was the first car in which the driver took an almost lying down position so commonly found since then. So prone was the driving position that the front cockpit canopy is a transparent blue tint to provide the driver with as much forward visibility as possible.
The BT55 was known as ‘The Skateboard’
The BT55 was not Murray’s best design and when disputes set in between himself and team owner Bernie Ecclestone, Murray left Brabham and joined the McLaren design team.
Our BT55 Nose and Wing is from the 1986 season T-Car and is marked inside T-55 / 6. It carries the racing number 7 so would have been set up for six times Grand Prix winner Riccardo Patrese.
This example shows slight marking to the tip of its nose and cracks further along which would be the result of a light shunt; we intend to get the cracks repaired prior to sale.
The finished unit will be supplied with a special wall mounting bracket and the purchaser can decide if they wish to display the assembly looking up or looking down.
At some point Bridgestone and Emporium Armani logos have been applied which would not have been current to this nose in 1986; we can remove these if the purchaser prefers.
Sizes - 148cm wide & 143cm long
To take advantage of the blue tinted canopy we can add some great LED lighting to the inside of the cockpit.
